2. Configuring the Live and Training systems
Once installed it is necessary to configure both the live and training systems.
As an example we will configure the Live system first.
- Double-click on the MK v11.1 icon on your desktop.
- The following dialogue box will display
- The text may differ from that shown above but, by default, the first item in the list for Live and the second item in the list is for Training.

- The first time that you start the software you will be asked for the configuration settings at the screen shown below:
- This happens only when a configuration hasn't been provided, and after a successful configuration will not be requested again unless forced.
- Enter the web server location, account name and account password in the box is provided. Commentary on these options is provided in the below table.
| Parameter | Typical Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Web server location | https://mydomain |
The URL or IP address of the webserver as accessible. i.e. Note: If you used a self-signed certificate during installation user HTTP not HTTPS. |
| Account Name | MKInsight-Live | The account names are pre-configured by Ideagen. For hosted customers the are usually CustomerName-Live or CustomerName-Training. |
| Account Password | <as configured> | This is the password configured in the MKInsight Setup web application by your IT team or provided by Ideagen. |
- If you do not use a proxy server on your network click Save Configuration and Start Ideagen MKinsight.
- If successful these parameters are encrypted and stored in the software's local store. If the client software was unable to connect to the server correctly an error message will be displayed with further information.
- If you do use the proxy server please read section 3 in order to configure the software for use through a proxy server.
- Otherwise repeat this process for the Training system by exiting MKinsight, double-clicking the MKinsight - 11.1 icon on the desktop and selecting the MKinsight Training item in the list.
3. Configuring proxy server settings
For IT and Data Security and as part of organisational policy, an organisation may decide to employ the use of firewall or proxy servers. These are often devices located on a network between you and the Internet, or other network points within your organisation that regulate and control the data that passes through it, often by blanket denying all, except predefined access.
MKinsight has been designed to allow communications through proxy servers but requires a little more information in the way of proxy server details in order to function correctly and connect to the Internal Audit MK system.
- To configure the proxy server details, click on the proxy server button alongside the Web server location text box. A window will appear as below:
Note: The details are specific to your own network configuration and as such there are no defaults or expected values. However, further explanation is given below.
| Setting | Details |
|---|---|
| Proxy server location | |
| Use machine names (from Internet Explorer) |
This will use the exact same proxy server details as configured within your Internet Explorer (the details being found in Tools>Internet options>Connection Tab>LAN Settings) |
| Bypass on local addresses | This instructs the software to not use the proxy server for addresses on your local network. |
| Authentication | |
| Anonymous - no login required | The setting specifies that the proxy server listed below does not require direct authentication. |
| Integrated - login with current user details | MKinsight will attempt to authenticate with the proxy server via Windows Authentication (current user). |
| Specific - complete login details below | If the proxy server requires configuration with explicit details and the settings above do not apply, then you should complete these details. |
Note: If you are unsure of the configuration you should provide, consult your IT or Networking team for clarification. Ideagen support cannot provide these details as the system belongs to your organisation and as such, we do not have the access to this information.
Note: When you have completed the proxy settings, the message will be displayed on the main screen to show that the settings have been provided.
- Attempt to store these configuration details by clicking Start MKinsight.
- If the proxy server details are invalid then a detailed error message will appear to provide more information.
